See MD5 Checksums for these files

The 1.5.0 Beta (100% web-based install) version is for new installations only. The 1.5.0 Stable version should be used for upgrading existing installations.

Requirements

CWIS requires a web server with PHP 4.1.0 and MySQL 4.1 or later. PHP must be installed with MySQL support.

This version of CWIS is being developed with Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.1.6, and MySQL 5.0.22 on Red Hat Linux and OS X. It should work with earlier version of Apache, but these specific versions (or later versions) of Apache, PHP, and MySQL are recommended.

Installation (1.5.0 Stable / Shell-Based)

Before beginning installation of the CWIS, you should have these pieces of information:

  • the directory on the web server where the software is to be installed,
  • the URL (web address) that will be used to reach this directory,
  • the host name of the system running your MySQL database server,
  • the user name and password for logging into that MySQL server, and
  • the name of the database on that MySQL server to use when storing CWIS data.

If you're not sure about any of these, the web server administrator should be able to help you figure them out.

Once you have the above information and have downloaded the two CWIS distribution files (cwisinstall-1.5.0 and cwis-1.5.0.tgz), place those files in a directory on your web server and begin the installation with the command:

./cwisinstall-1.5.0

(Note: After downloading the distribution files you may need to make the install script executable with the command: chmod a+x cwisinstall* If you're not sure what this command means, try the preceding command to start the installation and consult your system administrator if you get an error message like "Permission denied.")

The install script will ask you for some of the information you gathered above, and then direct you to a web page where you can complete the installation.

Installation (1.5.0 Beta / 100% Web-Based)

PLEASE NOTE: The 100% web-based 1.5.0 beta version of CWIS is only for new installations. If you are upgrading from a previous version, please use the shell-based 1.5.0 stable version.

Once you have the above information and have downloaded the CWIS distribution file (cwis-1.5.0.zip), unpack that file, upload the unpacked files and directories to your web server, and make sure that the directory structure inside the zip file is preserved and that the directory you uploaded to and the following subdirectories under it are writable by the web server:

include
MetadataTool
SPTUI--CWIS/MetadataTool
SPTUI--Standards/MetadataTool

After you have the files uploaded and directories writable, begin the install by using your web browser to go to the URL:

http://mysite.com/installcwis.php

where http://mysite.com is the address of your web server. This should bring up a web page titled CWIS Installation. You'll then enter the information you gathered above into the web page that comes up and click on the "Begin Installation" button.

If everything checks out, the installation should take less than 30 seconds, after which a link to your new CWIS site will be displayed, and you can go to the new site and log in.

Checksums
